The focus of this project was to utilize a commonly discarded material and re-purpose it into a useful household item. These materials included, but were not limited to, felt, glass, cork, and cardboard.
Wine bottles are a marvel of packaging. They hold their contents for an incredibly variable amount of time: from several days to decades. Upon opening, they are discarded or recycled. Something that is so ubiquitous in kitchens should have a more permanent place there.
The concept of a cookbook holder came to me quickly and was executed using a diamond wheel tile saw. A cork insert was fashioned to cradle the book and, as the items were to be sold in a green-focused store called "Home & Planet" in Bethlehem, PA, I applied a star motif using a sandblaster. All 16 Recipe Racks were sold during the feature night.

This table was inspired by a wax-cast handle. Unfortunately, the handle was fragile and was not incorporated into the final table, but inspired the creation of a mechanism to allow adjustability of one of the table tops. Two walnut and cherry tabletops were affixed to a welded steel structure with wooden feet.

Powder-coated scrap steel.
This piece was constructed using found materials and scraps of steel used in plasma cutting demonstrations. A large bin in the metal shop was used to hold scraps and off-cuts from various projects and the shapes contained inspired a patchwork ship concept.
